About Khmer

Khmer (ភាសាខ្មែរ) is the official language of Cambodia with around 16 million speakers. It has one of the most complex scripts in the world — 33 consonants, 23 vowels, and multiple diacritic systems. Unlike Thai or Vietnamese, Khmer has no tones, but the script alone makes it essentially impenetrable to foreigners. Most tourists can't even identify individual letters, let alone communicate preferences.
